Rectal Bleeding

If you notice blood in your stool, or on the toilet tissue, you should contact ADH immediately for an appointment. While most patients will be suffering from minor issues, such as small tears or hemorrhoids, it is vitally important to have that diagnosis made by a gastroenterologist.

Your doctor may recommend a colonoscopy in order to find the source of the bleeding. Do not let your fear of the procedure, or the preparation, cause you to postpone making an appointment. While most patients will get the “all clear” diagnosis; those patients who are diagnosed with colon polyps or cancer will benefit from early detection and intervention.

For more information see hemorrhoids and colon polyps/cancer in the illness portion of our website.
