Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, (IBS), is a common gastrointestinal problem; affecting about 20% of adults. This chronic disease should not be confused with the more serious IBD and often responds so well to lifestyle changes and treatments that many patients report significant decrease in flare-ups. Many patients who suffer with anxiety and depression also report symptoms of IBS.

Symptoms include: diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.  It can be difficult to diagnose since the symptoms mimic a variety of other illnesses. Unfortunately, many feel they just have to learn to “live with” their symptoms and do not seek medical help, but, there is real relief available. It is also important not to self diagnose as these symptoms can also indicate more serious illnesses.
